DESCRIPTION
Maiori Port is a passenger ship terminal. It is situated in the town of Maiori, located on the Amalfi Coast in the Campania region of Italy. The Port of Maiori is located in the western part of the town. (GPS: 40.648037094620726, 14.635384296048352).
The port is a hub for local boat trips, ferries, and other maritime activities, providing access to nearby coastal towns and attractions.
The access to the port is from local road SS163.
The port has docking facilities for a variety of vessels, including private yachts, fishing boats, and small to medium-sized pleasure crafts. The port handles a significant amount of tourist traffic during the peak season. The port is equipped with essential maritime facilities, including fueling stations, water supply, and electricity hookups for docked vessels. These services ensure that boats and yachts can stay operational during their time at the port.
The Maiori pier was constructed using prefabricated concrete caissons. The caissons were 2 x 2 x 2 meters in size. The main structure consists of a rectangular cross-section with a “C” shaped structure above it, made of uniform elements approximately 5 meters in size, which housed the rooms for the fishermen’s equipment. The structure is anchored to the sea floor by foundation piles, and a crowning beam on the upper surface connects the perimeter caissons. The entire structure is shielded by boulders on the outside, and the upper cover is made of sheet iron.
The Maiori port is designed with fixed docks (one main and two side docks). Everything is protected by rock boulders placed on the outer side of the structure. Fixed docks incorporate breakwaters and wave attenuators to protect against strong waves and ensure a calm docking environment, made by large rocks in this case.
Placement creates a sheltered area within the marina, reducing the impact of waves and ensuring safe docking.
Mooring Systems consist of cleats and bollards – These are installed along the docks to provide secure points for tying up vessels. They are designed to withstand significant loads from mooring lines.
Protective fenders are attached to dock edges to prevent damage to boats and docks during docking and undocking.
Gangways and Ramps: These structures provide safe and easy access from the shore to the floating docks. They are designed to accommodate changes in water levels and are built with non-slip surfaces for safety.
